Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is the ‘Biggest’ Game the Studio Has Ever Done
The upcoming Indiana Jones release from Machine Games is set to be their ‘biggest and longest game’ to date. That will likely mean that this world-spanning adventure should last at least 20 hours if the playtimes for Wolfenstein: The New Order and Wolfenstein II are a benchmark. These lasted around 15 hours a piece so having a more expansive story and levels are cause for excitement for fans. That is, of course, if this release doesn’t wear out its welcome.
As part of this apparent 20-hour long campaign, nearly 4 of those hours are claimed to be story cutscenes according to Machine Games. That’s a hefty number and, depending on what they count as a ‘cutscene’, could mean that there are two movie-length Indiana Jones releases as part of this game. That puts it in line with Wolfenstein II, which clocked in at a little over four hours with its cutscenes.
Machine Games haven’t made a big blockbuster release since 2017 with the second in the modern Wolfenstein series. That’s not counting spin-offs and rereleases like Wolfenstein: Youngblood and Quake 1 & 2. In any case, it’s been a long time since we’ve seen something truly massive from Machine Games. Considering how great those two Wolfenstein releases are, however, hopefully we can see this Indy release realize its potential as a truly interactive movie and do its IP justice. At least, it must top the only other Indiana Jones game competition: The Infernal Machine from way back in 1999.
You can check out Indiana Jones and the Great Circle when it launches on December 9th for Xbox Series consoles and PC. It’s Xbox’s final (and only) big exclusive release of the year and can be experienced on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate day one. It’s a win that Xbox most certainly need- especially if we want to maintain any faith in next year’s Avowed, Fable and Doom releases to meet expectations. This is especially true after the less than stellar releases of Starfield and Redfall from last year. Keep your eyes on this one when it launches next month.
