Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster Announced for Later this Year

Despite the summer games reveal window winding to a close, there are still a bunch of exciting announcements crawling out of the woodwork- with many of these coming as part of Capcom Next. The presentation showed off the very unique action RPG ‘Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess’ (which was first revealed last year) as well as teasing that Capcom were working on a new Resident Evil game. Chief among these reveals, however, was the announcement of a full remaster of the first Dead Rising game coming on September 19th.

The remaster is being built upon Capcom’s very own ‘RE Engine’, which was the foundation of many recent hits from the studio including Resident Evil VII and Street Fighter VI. It’s not only the improved visuals and performance that are being touted, however, bur also quality of life improvements like improved UI, overhauled controls and autosaving to prevent any crashes from completely demolishing player’s progress. The original Dead Rising was released 18 years ago to praise from critics across the board. The hordes of zombies were something not seen in many games back then and, even with some of the more controversial sequels, the original game is still touted as a classic. Unfortunately, however, in 2018, the studio behind the franchise were closed by Capcom- leaving many believing that the series was dead.

With the original release being completely remastered in Capcom’s shiny new engine, the game will finally be thrust into the modern day- hopefully without the glitches and stuttering issues that the game faced back on the Xbox 360. This will also hopefully drum up enough sales to give Capcom a reason to revive the franchise since, after the decline of the zombie craze of the late 2000s, the gaming space for this type of game has been quite dry (State of Decay and Dying Light not included). If you miss the obsessive 00’s era of zombies, you can pick this one up on September 19th for all major platforms.
