Rockstar Announces Time Frame for New GTA Trailer

In a recent Instagram post, Rockstar Games has finally officially announced when we can expect the first trailer for the next Grand Theft Auto Game. According to the post, the first look of this incredibly hyped title will be coming in early December to celebrate the studio’s 25th anniversary. This announcement was penned by Rockstar president, Sam Houser, and has already amassed over 800,000 likes on Instagram in under 2 hours. Considering the overwhelming popularity of their game’s library, the reception to this simple announcement has been huge.

Of course, the existence of Grand Theft Auto VI was never in question. Considering that the previous entry in the franchise, GTA V, sold over 185 million copies, making it the 2nd best-selling game of all time, Rockstar were never going to stop developing the series. On top of this, the infamous leaks of 2022 showed off some gameplay in early development and the main character designs. Grand Theft Auto VI was inevitable, and, as of right now, it’s been a decade in the making. Of course, the massive money pot of GTA Online and the development of Red Dead Redemption 2 would have slowed this process, but this announcement is an indication that Rockstar are progressing steadily with development.

The ‘early December’ release window for the trailer is dubious, but it at least means that news on the game will be coming in a month or so. As for what the trailer will show, that’s more up in the air. Likely some light story details, gameplay and, naturally, a lot of blowing things up. We already have some details confirmed from the leaks, such as the location being Vice City and the dual protagonists. However, considering how much of an impact it had on the industry at the time, news around the leak died down quickly after. Most of GTA VI is still unknown to us- which means it’s worth marking the trailer on your calendar.

As for the release date of the next GTA, it’s difficult to say whether this will even be announced in the new trailer. Developers are becoming more and more wary about announcing games too early only to be delayed when the ambitions and scale of the project inevitably push the release back. If Rockstar are planning on announcing a release date or window with this first trailer, it would likely be sometime in late 2024 to maintain hype without being too unrealistic about when they can ship the game. All will be revealed in early December when the trailer will be no doubt dropped out of nowhere. Now, if Rockstar pull a Hi-Fi Rush and shadow drop the game, that may just break the industry. I wouldn’t place any bets on that happening, though.
