FBC: Firebreak Meets Mixed Reception

The latest game from Alan Wake developers Remedy Interactive is available now- but it may not be the third person story based thriller you’d be expecting from them. Instead, FBC: Firebreak is a three person co-operative FPS set in the shared Remedy universe as you fight off otherworldly creatures within the FBC (Federal Bureau of Control).

If you’ve played Control, you may be expecting some off the wall powers and but, unfortunately, FBC Firebreak fails to capture the same excitement as their more recent releases. Only five missions are currently in the game- making the current time listed on HowLongToBeat.Com under 3 hours- which puts this release at over £10 per hour played if you just want to play most of what the game has on offer (since it retails for £32 currently). Limited enemies, weapons and areas to play in make FBC Firebreak feel more like a demo than a fully fledged game according to a lot of critics- making the price point quite difficult to justify.

One thing regarding the game that has critics in agreement is the lore presented being really quite interesting. Surprisingly enough, this multiplayer shooter has a bunch of deep story implications for the other games in the Remedyverse. It’s just unfortunate that its found buried so deep in a rather underwhelming experience.

One review site, The Game Machine, said the following in their 6/10 review:

“FBC: Firebreak is a cooperative spin-off that seems intriguing on paper but unfortunately lacks substantial content. With only five missions-rather simplistic ones at that-unremarkable classes, a limited variety of enemies, and uninspired weapons, the investment of time and money may not be justified.”

Unless you’re a massive fan of co-operative third person shooters or really want to see more lore related to the Remedyverse, it may be worth waiting for a sale to pick up FBC: Firebreak. The foundations are good for the time being but the lack of a decent amount of content or replayability does little to justify its price point. Its available now on Xbox, PS5 and PC
