Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Reviews Are Glowing

The reviews for the highly anticipated Final Fantasy VII Rebirth are out now- and initial impressions are very strong. With just under 100 reviews so far, the game is sitting at a comfortable 93- landing it as the best reviewed release of the year so far. What’s more impressive is that 100% of critics have recommended the game- indicating that its an unmissable day one buy if you own a PlayStation 5.

To put the 93 score into perspective, the first game in the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy launched back in 2020 to a score of 88, which was still very impressive for a game that had its fair share of controversy. To see the sequel jump so much in quality, however, shows that Square Enix took the complaints of the first game and built upon them to create a far more critically acclaimed title. Simply put, if you were a fan of 2020’s portion of the remake, you’ll enjoy this entry even more.

One site that was especially enamoured with the game was Destructoid, who had the following to say in their glowing 9.5/10 score of the game:

“Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth somehow manages to spin multiple plates without smashing any of them. It’s over-the-top serious when it wants to be, and it’s utterly absurd in the next moment. Great Final Fantasy games have always managed to walk this line, and it’s a testament to how the brand has stayed relevant for decades on end.”

Game Rant were equally as impressed, stating the following in their 9/10 take:

“Despite the pacing issues in its final chapters, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is still bigger and better than Final Fantasy 7 Remake. If the third game can keep everything that's great about these remake projects so far and trim the fat a bit, we will have a spectacular trilogy on our hands.”

While there are those who weren’t as impressed with the final product here, its safe to say that Final Fantasy fans have another very special game on their hands here after the success of Final Fantasy XVI from last year. Whether it will resonate with fans as well as it has with critics remains to be seen, but hopefully this manages to land in the good graces of the fanbase as the developers move into the development of the third and final piece of the trilogy.
